Grand League

The Grand League finished after Cork Regatta.   Going into this event we were in 9th place overall and had hoped to improve. However the competition was intense and we did very well to hold our 9th position out of the 51 clubs competiting in the League.    This was three places behind Cork Boat Club and two in front of Lee.   Skibbereen Rowing Club won the league by a distance with 664 points against the 350 of UCD their nearest rivals.   Once again Skibb set the compeitive standard for others to achieve.
The big news for Shandon is our overall victory in the Women's Division 2 single scull (1X) event.   Division 2 incorporates Novice, J18B and J16 categories and there were 19 clubs in all competiting in the event.     This was a really excellent result for all our Junior Women rowers with particular congatulations to Holly Lingwood whose qualification for two A finals contributed 19 points to our oveall total of 31.    This is the second year in a row Shandon have won a Grand League Pennant and we were the only Cork City club to win a Divisional Pennant this year (always worth noting!!)
Congratulations to all who took part in the league, to their coaches, to Captain David and to Senior Coach Sean.
